California Baptist University, also known as Cal Baptist, or CBU, is a private, Christian, liberal arts institution in Riverdale, California. It is the only Southern Baptist college or university on the West Coast.The university was founded as California Baptist College in 1950 by the Los Angeles Baptist Association. Four years later, the college earned its charter from the State of California, and in 1955, it moved from El Monte to its present location. That year, the university ranked among the top five regional liberal arts colleges for student-faculty ratio by U.S. News & World Report.Managed by the California Southern Baptist Convention, the university comprises seven academic divisions: College of Arts and Sciences, School of Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Metcalf School of Education, Shelby and Ferny Collinsworth School of Music, and School of Nursing.Undergraduate, graduate and teacher credential programs are offered in numerous fields. program with its prime emphasis on Church Business Administration.Spread over 90 acres, the campus includes 27 buildings and is well known in the region for its Mission Revival-style architecture. There also is a residence facility on the campus.
